Blood Diamond....and Fraggle Rock interesting combo
Hello all,
Well this week has been a long week. It felt like it went on forever. But it is over and I have 2 days to take a break and catch up on some sleep. Classess are going good and so far I have been on top of assignments for them. I have to see my Engilsh teachers some time this week, hopefully Monday, so I can take to them about topics for essays. Stagecraft is fun we are in sound class right now and we are learning how to create sound scapes using sound effects, I am having fun with this class. I cant wait though to start wardrobe which is next because we learn dyeing this semester. So Meg I will understand some of your pain.
Production this week has been good but it seemed that rehearsal were very long but we got a lot of work done, at least in the two days that I was ASM I saw a lot of work done. I think this will be the first show that I wont see here, and that makes me kinda sad but I can see it from backstage and thats where I love to be so....
It cool to actually see this semester the work that goes into a professional show...not that I havent been part of this process before but the other shows (with the expection of CONA) have been more causal of a show.
People often ask me why I chose to spend my life backstage when with an interest in theatre I am not on the stage...but hearing thanks from Adam (the director) and the cast is the best feeling in the world for me....my applase come that why and to me from people who see and understand how much work you have put into this show.
Last night was Friday and of course in standing with tradition Lisa and I hung out....we went up to the mall and did some "malling around" and I brought Season One of Fraggle Rock. Then we decide to go to a movie instead of renting or watching one of ours. We went to Blood Diamond and all I have to say is wow. This movie is an eye-opener it puts the world of confilct diamonds right in you face. It does not sugar coat this topic for one second. It was refreshing to see a movie not hide anything. It is powerful and very sad...lots of tears. Also the fact that the majority of this was shot in South Arfica has an impact all of its own. I left the threatre thinking that all this blood shed and loss is all over a piece of coal when you look at it and how the diamond brokers make their money off of this and they know that its happening but they look the other way. It has gotten better but it is still up to the consumer to insist that the diamond that they are buying is conflict free.
I think on that note I will say love and miss you all....be home soon for a visit
